Smithing Templates could have a small practical use in addition to their decorative role. Applying a template to armor would restore a portion of its durability, depending on the material used. For example:
Diamond or Netherite restores the most durability.
Other materials (Iron, Gold, etc.) restore less.
Applying a template cannot restore more than 30% of the armor’s maximum durability.
Balance considerations:
This does not replace anvils.
Duplicating a template requires 7 diamonds, making it expensive.
The mechanic rewards players for using rare materials but keeps traditional repair methods relevant.
Decorative templates remain cosmetic, but now they also offer a limited practical repair function, making them more meaningful without breaking the game balance.
