Why are the creators of this game so fixated in adding weapons that are borderline useless in face to face combat. I understand the power of the spear is in the gimmic of "more speed=more damage" and that it can be potentially way better than a basic sword, but this is no reason to neglect the basic jab attack.
It's functionally so annoying to have the 2 block minimum range for the spear. The moment you get surrounded by two zombies you are already obligated to reposition, mixed with the fact spears are SLOWER than axes (netherite) and that not even with maxed enchants they can one hit an unarmored zombie/skeleton makes this weapons useless in daily combat. You are NOT going all over your world in a horse, and using the charged attack with an elytra is more risky than just enchanting your netherite sword with Smite V that already one-shots zombies and skellys with a basic hits and one shots zombies and skellys with leather, copper and gold armor with one critical hit.
The spear doesn't need to deal more damage. But increasing the speed of the netherite version to be AT LEAST in pair with the axe and removing the 2 block minimum range would be an incredibly good step in the right direction to make this weapon somewhat useful in taking care of daily mobs like zombies, skeletons, creepers, witches...
The spear shouldn't be super spammable and I think it's good that it's not as fast as the sword and that different versions have different speeds, but a bit more speed wouldn't hurt.
