With the announcement of the new numbering system, it was stated that future released will no longer be indicated by major version number followed by patch (19.3, 20.2, 21.1, etc.) but will now be indicated by the year its' released followed by 'drop' and then patch. This is a major problem, we don't need (or care) when an update is released. I understand Mojang is worried about not having a 'big update', but that doesn't mean the entire version numbering system that's been there for 15 YEARS needs to be thrown out because they're changing content frequency. I mean, 1.18 only added bees but it still warranted a version change because SOMETHING had been added. The current version numbering is fine, staff just need to understand that updates don't have to be this 'oh look at this big thing we added that'll completely change the game!' in order to warrant a version change.
