Villagers in Minecraft are an essential part of making villages feel alive. However, in Creative Mode, they often wander into random areas or cluster in corners making towns look chaotic.
This proposal introduces Movement Zones, a Creative-only feature.
Feature 1: Movement Zones
-
Creative players can assign a specific rectangular zone to each villager.
-
Villagers can only walk, pathfind, and interact within their assigned zone.
-
Use Cases:
-
Librarians remain in the library
-
Farmers stay on farmland
-
Smiths stay in forges
-
-
Benefits:
-
Eliminates chaotic wandering
-
Makes NPC behavior predictable and useful for building displays
-
Enhances realism in villages and cities
Implementation Ideas:
-
-
Right-click villager → assign or edit zone
-
Feature 2: Unemployed NPCs / Marketplace Villagers
Functionality:
-
Introduces a new villager type: Unemployed NPC
-
-
Assigned zones like marketplace, residential areas, taverns, or plazas
-
Can be assigned houses randomly for atmosphere
Behavior:
-
Wander within their zone
-
Occasionally “interact” with stalls, benches, or other villagers
-
Optional idle animations (looking at items, walking, chatting)
Benefits:
-
Makes villages feel lived-in without creating chaos
-
Adds dynamic background NPCs for roleplay or city-building
-
Keeps Creative builds realistic and lively
Why Mojang Should Add This
-
Enhances Creative Mode for builders and map-makers
-
Improves immersion in towns and cities
-
Reduces frustration with current villager AI behavior
-
Provides new roleplay and city-building possibilities
