Free up/release old usernames from inactive users

I have wanted to change my username for Minecraft: Java Edition for a while now (many probably have too). However, the username I want is locked behind an inactive account that hasn't played for 3+ years. For many newer players, this prevents them from picking a username they really like. Perhaps you could implement a system to free up old usernames? If the inactive user wants to keep their username, let them confirm. If not, free up the old username after a month or something. This would allow many newer players like me to finally get that username they want. Many newer usernames have lots of numbers and underscores to get an available name, and I'm sure some of them would like to remove them.

    I agree with this, I've even seen people with around 10+ years of inactivity with a name I like. I don't think mojang will implement this, but to me it seems right to give active players access to names other people don't use.
