I think Minecraft lacks a good in-between method of transportation, but with the mounts of mayhem update there's potential. Right now, riding a horse makes it easy to get around, but unlike elytras, they don't make the "scale" of the game too big. I've noticed essentially everyone prefers walking over using horses, regardless of their progression in the game. They're almost good.
This is where one small change could make horses a viable form of transportation. I think you should be able to summon your horse somehow. Pets like dogs and cats already teleport. An idea of mine was that clicking a goat horn on a tamed horse could enchant it (like a compass on a lodestone) and whenever you blow that horn, one of two things happen:

If it's within 64 blocks, and there is a clear path, the horse runs over

If it's outside of 64 blocks, the horse teleports within 64 blocks of you and runs over. Kind of like how dogs teleport. (this second feature might be overpowered)
Obviously a few tweaks would probably need to be made, but I think that as a whole, this is fairly balanced, as goat horns are a mid-game advancement. Along with the ability for horses to float in the next update, they could actually become a great mid-game transportation option. Maybe goat horns can be found in dungeouns too, kind of like saddles used to be.
If a dev happens to read this, I would love to hear your feedback/opinion! even if that means explaining flaws in the idea
