Copper Tools/Armor Lose Durability by Being Exposed to Air

A LOT of people have been bringing up the idea of changing the texture of copper tools as their durability decreases, and while it would be thematic, but those changes wouldn't really affect gameplay. In addition to changing texture, copper tools should have very large durability but lose durability by being exposed to the air (they lose durability by being used too, as usual).

This would affect worn copper armor, copper tools or armor in either hand, and potentially items on the ground, but not work on copper equipment in item frames or armor stands to prevent displayed items from breaking.
