Spiders in this game are iconic, but at the moment, they don’t feel very challenging. Zombies already fill the niche of being “easy alone but a real threat in numbers,” especially with their leader mechanic that makes them swarm aggressively. Skeletons and creepers each have unique identities and attack patterns that make them stand out. But where does that leave the spider? Right now, it’s only a little faster than most mobs, easy to outrun, and has less health than others, with a crawling mechanic that gets overshadowed by ranged attacks from other mobs. It ends up feeling underwhelming, and only threatening when backed up by a crowd.
Considering that spiders bite rather than punch like zombies, can spawn with potion effects, and already have a poisonous variant, it feels natural to connect them more directly to potion mechanics. My suggestion: allow spiders to steal your active potion effects when they bite you.
Lore-wise, this makes perfect sense; the spider’s bite is essentially tasting your blood, absorbing whatever magical energy or potion residue flows through it. Gameplay-wise, it introduces a fun layer of strategy. This effect would only apply to regular spiders (not cave spiders). Whenever one bites you, it inherits your current potion effect for 10 seconds, regardless of how long yours lasts. Positive or negative, it doesn’t matter, if you have Speed or Strength, the spider gets those boosts; but if you’re poisoned or weakened, the spider suffers the same fate.
