Players love the outer skin layer (hats, hair, masks). A community-proven idea shows how much better these details look with real depth. I propose an optional “3D Skin Layers” mode in vanilla: render the second skin layer with thickness up close, and smoothly fall back to classic 2D at distance to protect FPS. No gameplay changes, no server requirements—purely client-side, like capes.
How it could work
-
Settings → Skin & Cape: toggle 3D Outer Layer (default Off).
-
Per-part control: Hat, jacket, sleeves, pants can be 3D or 2D.
-
Smart performance: Distance-based LOD; optional “Show others in 3D: Off” for low-end PCs.
-
Visual fidelity: Respect transparent pixels for glasses/visors.
-
Parity: Same UI/behavior on Java and Bedrock.
Compatibility
Plays nicely with armor, elytra, and capes; safe defaults prevent surprises on servers/Realms.

If you support this, upvote and comment with preferred defaults, distance limits, and per-part options. Let’s add more style—without losing performance or the vanilla feel.
