While it's understandable the reason why Spears have low damage is due to balance and charge mechanics; Wooden Spears dealing the same damage as a fist is ridiculous especially when Spears attack slower than fists, even if it can attack multiple enemies per jab.
Spamming with your fist to hit multiple targets does more overall damage than a Wooden Spear, currently even with Netherite Spears; there's very little reason to use its jab attack instead of just using an Axe or a Sword.
So I suggest multiple things to make them better to use whilst being balanced:
- Increase the jab damage to only be 1 damage lower than their sword counterpart (e.g. Wooden Spear = 3 DMG, Wooden Sword= 4 DMG)
- Remove the multi-target damage of jabs, that should only be for its Charge attack and Swords. Spears are infamously not great for hitting multiple targets at once, that's what swords are for. This change will give Spear jabs and Swords more different uses.
- Spear's overall attack speed should be slower, this should balance it with Swords because Spears have longer reach in addition to its Charge mechanic.
- The attack speed difference between tiers shouldn't be as significant (e.g. instead of: Wooden Spears = 1.54 Attack Speed, Netherite Spears = 0.87 Attack Speed; it should be: Wooden Spears = 1.2 Attack Speed, Netherite Spears = 0.8 Attack Speed.
