Allow large worlds to be upload

I’m writing this because this problem is still actively affecting PlayStation 5 players, even though some related tickets have been marked as resolved or duplicated. From a real user perspective, the issue is not fixed and continues to be a major limitation for the community.

I play Minecraft Bedrock on PlayStation 5 (native PS5 version) and I currently have an active, paid Realm subscription. I am trying to upload my own local world to my Realm using the “Replace world” option, but the process always fails with the same generic error message: “An error occurred”. The behavior is inconsistent but constant: sometimes the upload fails halfway through, other times it reaches 100% and then fails anyway. Each attempt takes a very long time, often close to an hour, and the result is always the same.

For context, this is a local world stored on the PS5 system storage, with a size of approximately 377 MB. I want to be very clear that this is not a basic configuration issue. I have spent days trying to solve it and have exhausted every reasonable workaround. I have completely reinstalled Minecraft on PS5, backed up my saved data to PS Plus, deleted all local saved data, restored everything from the cloud, and even disabled automatic cloud synchronization to avoid any possible conflicts.

I have also closed and reopened the Realm before attempting the upload, and I have tested multiple network configurations, including a fiber connection, a 5G mobile hotspot, and even slower mobile connections with forced LTE / 4G. I have repeated the upload process many times across several days. None of this has worked. The world simply cannot be uploaded.

This issue is especially serious on PlayStation 5 because of platform restrictions. On PS5, local worlds cannot be exported, world files cannot be accessed, and external servers cannot be used. This means that Realms is the only officially supported way to move a world off the console. When Realms uploads fail, the world is effectively locked inside the PS5 with no supported workaround at all. This makes the impact of this bug far more severe on PlayStation than on other platforms where players at least have alternative options.

This is also not an isolated case. There are multiple ongoing community reports describing the exact same behavior on PS5, with Realms uploads failing at random points or at 100% and showing the same generic error message. This can be easily verified by looking at active threads in communities such as https://www.reddit.com/r/MinecraftBedrockers/ and https://www.reddit.com/r/realms/, using search terms like “PS5 Realm upload error”, “An error occurred Replace World PS5”, or “Minecraft PS5 Realms world upload fails”.These discussions show clearly that this problem is still affecting many players today

I am aware that this issue is already tracked in Mojang’s official bug tracker under REALMS-8020, along with related tickets such as REALMS-2772 and REALMS-474. However, even though some of these tickets are marked as resolved or duplicated, the real-world behavior on PS5 shows that the problem is still unresolved in practice.

As a paying customer, this situation is extremely frustrating. Uploading and using a personal world is a core advertised feature of Realms, yet on PS5 this feature does not work reliably or at all. If this issue is not properly addressed, the only remaining option for affected players is to cancel the subscription and request a refund, because the service cannot be used as intended on this platform.

This is not a user-side mistake or a misconfiguration. After extensive testing, it is clear that the problem lies within Mojang’s Realms implementation on PlayStation 5, and it needs to be acknowledged and fixed. At the very least, better error reporting is needed, because a generic “An error occurred” message after an hour-long upload provides no actionable information to the user.

I hope this feedback helps make clear that this is a real, ongoing community issue that deserves priority.

I also have had this issue for months now. My world is over 700 mb and takes hours to upload just for it to say error occurred. It sucks so bad cause there is no other way to get the world off of my ps5 so it’s just stuck there. It’s truly crazy to me how Microsoft can have so much money and doesn’t even bother to fix their most popular game

This is serious issue for PlayStation 5 users because realms is currently the only way to transfer the world to PC due to the nature of PS5 save files. This is devastating for people who started on console, hoping to eventually upgrade to PC, but now have a world with hundreds if not thousands of hours trapped. Not to mention the worst part, the fact I can’t play with my friends anymore on that world…. my save file is 1.0gb Please help!

I have a 670 mb world I have played for 4 years now. it is nearly impossible to do anything on realms with out it crashing. i have played this game for 17 years and realms is such a disappointment. I have tried and failed to upload my world 10 plus times. it takes 2 hours per upload attempt. I am going to cancel my realms until it is fixed.

Really unbelievable and embarrassing for Mojang to allow their most basic features to be non-functional like this. I'm definitely not planning on spending a dime on the Marketplace over the years if we can't even get our world off of a simple console -- I would rather go through the work of hosting my own servers than give Microsoft any money after an experience like this one.

It really should not be acceptable to have the most basic operations of your game fail in this fashion. It's 2026 and a 500MB world file is not large. This is what the Realms subscription money is supposed to *be for*, after all.

I've already tried multiple "tricks" but I can't upload my 250mb world how I could do it for my 10 mb world like come on I shouldn't have paid for realms.

Same issue for me - I have a world that's over 800 mb and and consistently gets the "an error occurred" message after it uploads for a couple hours. The timing varies but I haven't seen it get past  about 600 mb I believe. I've tried about every possible option with different wifi, metered connections, and direct ethernet connection. I've tried resetting the cache (PS5 and minecraft) and have deleted every possible world but the main one I'm trying to upload to allow for more space.

Frustratingly, as it's such a large world file, Minecraft PS5 won't let me duplicate the world either (not enough storage space), which is also a Minecraft restriction as the PS5 has over 200 gb remaining. So I'm not able to try a duplicated world. I believe I've tried about everything else I've seen as a solution online including trying to reduce the size manually and reducing render distance. At this point, I'm convinced I can't do anything differently and waiting for Mojang/Microsoft to notice or fix the problem.
