Zombie Horse Spawn idea

I am basing this idea on the assumption that zombie horses are being added to survival in the next update. I think they should have a unique zombification mechanic in addition to their current spawn with riders. There could be a chance that if a zombie comes into contact with an existing horse at night or during thunderstorms, the horse transforms into a zombie horse. The transformation would not need to be complicated, just a puff of green particles to cover the instant change so it stays simple and cost effective. This would not replace the spawning system Mojang already made but rather add more variety and storytelling to the game. It would also make horses feel more vulnerable and alive in the world since players like me who tame horses and then forget about them could come back later to find one corrupted into a zombie horse.
