Nautili are a small handful of surviving species of a once much larger class Nautiloidea, which now only boasts one surviving family containing only six to nine surviving species. (Depending on how you define separate species.) During the Paleozoic this class once boasted over two thousand recorded species, and likely far more unrecorded. Shell shape was quite varied (as was size), with some having long, conical shells, some curved like a horn, others that grew straight with a curled end, while still others had spiral shells as we're more familiar with, but with pointed spines, overlapping ridges, or even a helical spiral that coiled to the side.

These many and varied relatives of the Nautilus are of course now extinct and may also be extinct in the world of Minecraft if it parallels the real world in this respect. However, extinct species have already been introduced to the game in the form of the Sniffer and the ancient plants it can dig up. Through the same system of archaeology, more extinct species may be introduced, possibly even including some of the many interesting relatives of the Nautilus. Orthocones (Nautliloids with straight shells) may also interact with lancing, if either their shell gives them a natural ability to deal charging damage, or if their shell when held as an item may function as an unusual variant of the spear. (Possibly dealing more damage underwater.)
I would love to see these ancient creatures added to the game if possible.
