Currently, black armor trims are a prohibitively expensive flex. It costs an entire netherite ingot for black trim. By the time you could realistically spare that, you would be using netherite armor. A black trim on black armor is basically invisible. So you would be using the black armor trim on armor that you wouldn't actually be wearing. This needless flex undermines the creative potential of the game.
All of the other armor trim materials are reasonably available. They can either be mined in relative abundance or outright farmed. Netherite ingots not only require a rare material, but they require a multi-step crafting process. You have to mine up four ancient debris, smelt them into netherite scrap, and combine them with an equal amount of gold, to make ONE. Which you can use to either make the best gear in the game, and the only equipment that won't burn... or apply a black armor trim. Take a poll, nobody is doing this outside of creative mode.
For the sake of a non-ridiculous way to get the black armor trim, I present two options.
1: Switch to netherite scrap. While still using a rare material, this makes it a fraction of the expense.
2: Switch to echo shards. They're still relatively rare since they only spawn in ancient city loot chests, but they're more abundant than netherite. They're also only used in one crafting recipe right now anyway, so this would be a good expansion for them.
In conclusion: nobody who has netherite would use it for this, please fix.
