With the addition of the spear having two functionalities I think now would be a great time to reintroduce the blocking ability of the sword, which on its own it would be too similar to shields which is why I suggest turning it into a parry. The parry could be very precise and have a cool down for the sword if the parry is to fail but could pay off massively as it could stop the momentum of an attack and cancel out or reduce the damage that would be dealt to the player allowing for a sword to be more effectively used in combat with additional strategy, as it is now spears have a range that can overwhelm the other weapons, maces have an additional layer of technique and strategy that you need to be able to get off devastating blows, and axes have the ability to disarm shields, so I find it only fair that the sword be given a method to deal with these weapons where other methods would fail while also maintaining a weakness to range attacks as to keep a threat towards the sword that other methods must be used for protection against. I feel that if this were to be added due to the effectiveness of other weapons it would make combat A bit more interesting for sword users while also leaving a significant chink in the armor of this weapon via ranged weapons, baiting out of parry, or timing their attacks correctly to still make combat feel fair and fun for all.
