With mounts of mayhem adding my most beloved weapontype, spears, I would like to add some feedback. Spears are a good and strong weapon in 1on1 combat because of their range and I hope it will be done justice but I want to make sure to say this:
Make them "OP" at range and weak when enemies get too close. Also make us able to attack with a spear while blocking at the expense of slower attack speed and lower penetration.
Penetration:
Maybe through enchants a spear could get the ability to penetrate enemies when they are in a row similar to swords sweeping edge.
There could be other enchants that give you a bonus to your block recovery while using a spear and attacking while blocking.
Swift attack enchant could have a chance to do a ghostly attack that will hit the last hit enemy again.
Wind Strike will use a windcharge from your inventory and blast an enemy away.
Now here is the thing:
Spears in the real world a very good choice for combat and while that should be reflected in game I also think there should be a drawback or perhaps a counter. There already are enemies that use axes that can break your block. Perhaps scythes could be become a thing in game, they can bypass shields as well.
Something else I thought about is to add enemies that can attack and ignore shields, for example some kind of ghost similar to vexes. Perhaps a mob under certain circumstances could be powered up by another ghostmob and be possessed gaining the ability to get past shields.
