The Sniffer must dig up something other than plants.

I really like the Sniffer because I love reptiles, and he's cool. But I think he's too hard to find, and he only gives plants. If the Sniffer could dig up new ore or crystals, players would try to find him. The Sniffer can dig up crystals, clay shards, gold nuggets, and maybe even new ore, because it could be buried underground!

I can suggest some new things the Sniffer can dig up in Minecraft, such as a Petrified Egg, which has a small chance of hatching into a Notostracan. This animal is based on real life and can remain underground for centuries until the climate becomes suitable for life. This mob can also dig clay out of sand [like the Sniffer].
Notostracan will also be able to dig up a new item - Petrified Clay, from which you can create a Block of Petrified Clay, and then bricks, and so on.
