One of Minecraft’s longest-running rules is that villagers are pacifists — they’ll never fight, only trade. Illagers are their exact opposite: hostile raiders. This sharp contrast is great for lore, but it leaves a gap in gameplay.
What if there was a third option? A villager-like mob who isn’t a villager, but who can fight — a wandering warrior, or mercenary.

✨ The Concept
• Looks: Similar body shape to villagers, but may appear taller and bulkier or simply wear a unique armor/outfit with visible scars on his eye or body. Example wears patched armor, carries a weapon (sword, axe, or crossbow). Rougher, “battle-hardened” face.
• Spawn: Appears in special Mercenary Camps in the wilderness, or inside rare Village Taverns.
• Neutral by default: Doesn’t attack unless provoked or hired.
⸻
📜 Hiring System (Emerald Contracts)
Just like trading with villagers, but instead of buying items, you’re buying time and protection.
• Emerald x5 → Follows you for 5 minutes.
• Emerald x20 → Guards your village until sunrise.
• Emerald x30 → Joins your next raid defense.
• Uses a simple contract menu, so it feels familiar to villager trading.
Once their contract ends, they wave, thank you, and return to their camp or tavern.
⸻
⚔️ Combat Style
• Attacks like an illager, but on your side.
• Uses melee or ranged weapons depending on spawn type.
• Can wear armor that looks like (leather or iron).
• Stronger than a normal mob, weaker than an iron golem — but much more mobile.
