I know this has been said at least 1000 times, but I think it needs to be said again: Movable tile entities would greatly innovate the redstone community in the context of item transport, storage systems, etc.
However, Minecraft is a weird game, with a weird world, with weird laws of physics, in other words: pushing Tile entities with pistons is probably way too straight forward for Mojang to implement, so here's my proposal to add some difficulty/obscurity to it:
To be able to move Tile entities one will first need to package the Tile entity with a cardboard box, perhaps by using a dispenser with a cardboard box inside it. When packaged, the items inside should not be accessible by hoppers, right-clicking or copper golems and needs to be unpacked (perhaps via an empty dispenser which would collect the cardboard box again) to be accessible again. Regardless of whether the Dispenser idea gets adopted or not, the process of packaging and unpacking should be automate-able via redstone. Cardboard boxes should not be able to be picked up by the player, in order not to be a replacement of shulker boxes.
Need more obscurity? I got ya!
- Make cardboard boxes a falling block and if it falls from too high up, it breaks.
- 2 Types of boxes: a cardboard box, which only boxes Blocks which carry less than a chest and a iron crate which also carries chests
Well, that's all!
