I propose reintroducing sword blocking in Minecraft. This feature would add tactical depth, benefiting veteran players and newcomers alike. It also synergizes well with the Illusioner, as previously discussed.
Sword blocking could bring nostalgia to long-time players and serve as an accessible early-game defense for new ones, improving survival against initial threats. My proposal: blocking with a sword reduces damage but doesn't negate it, making it less effective than a shield, but offering a quick, reactive option.
This mechanic fits perfectly with the Illusioner's challenges. Facing a mob that creates illusions and turns invisible demands quick reactions. The ability to swiftly block with a sword while identifying the real Illusioner would be crucial, allowing protection without the movement penalty of a held shield. This creates dynamic, strategic, and engaging encounters.
Sword Blocking and Item Interaction
Shield in Off-Hand: Sword + Shield in off-hand = Shield blocks. Sword block only active if shield is removed or breaks.
Bow in Off-Hand: Sword + Bow in off-hand = Bow shoots. Sword block unavailable. Available if bow removed, breaks, or runs out of arrows.
These rules make sword blocking a contingency or tactical choice, activated when other combat tools aren't in use, adding depth and adaptability.
Thank you for your continued work on Minecraft.
