On Bedrock, Bonus Chest provides you with saplings and seeds, but on Java it doesn't. Bonus Chest serves as a good way to enable certain challenge runs (for example, The Void Single Biome, which I personally enjoy playing, would normally be impossible, but the chest gives you just enough wood to get to the Nether).
Ideally, the loot table of the Bedrock Bonus Chest can just be copied over to Java with little to no adjustments, and that would be a good solution.
Alternatively, the Bonus Chest's loot table could be changed to depend on the way the biomes themselves generate, and change accordingly to provide you with things that are a significant distance away (for example, if the nearest Desert is thousands of blocks away from spawn, the bonus chest should ideally contain a cactus, same with sand blocks if there aren't any nearby, or if it happens to a Jungle then the bonus chest should guarantee some jungle saplings and a bamboo; and just to clarify - it doesn't HAVE to contain any unique saplings like mangrove, cherry and pale oak, just any of the ordinary saplings could do).
Other things like buckets, bundles, pointed dripstone, kelp and maybe copper tools could also work, but I think the bare minimum is that the chest should help the player out of an impossible situation.
P.S: if you aren't willing to do that, then at least please reenable the wandering trader in The Void biome, or at least give us a way to call for one no matter where you are, I could really use the help :c
