- The basics:
The Copper Hopper block would work like the average hopper does. Able to take items out of a container, able to put items into adjacent containers, able to be locked via Redstone, etc.
Once right-clicked, the UI that would pop up would show two slots, similar to a furnace. One for it's "Inventory" and another for it's "Filter"
The copper hopper would not attempt to pull out or pick up items while it is without a "filter" to avoid it being used as a cheaper hopper with less inventory space. This would be good for balancing it.
Once given a Filter Item, it would check the above block or container for that item and pull only that item into itself, before moving it along to another container.
- Expansion:
Not unlike other Copper Blocks, the Copper Hopper can weather and be waxed. The more weathered a C-H is, the more filter space it could have available.
^ This isn't something I'm praying for, but it could be an interesting way to expand the system.
It would also pave the way for the addition of more hopper types, such as a golden hopper that works faster, or a diamond hopper, or a liquids hopper - you get the idea. Hoppers are awesome!!
- Why add it at all?
I'm running out of space, so I'll keep it short
With the recent addition of the beloved Copper Golem and Copper Chests, it almost seems redundant do add another item filtration option. But why should that be the case?
Copper is making a name for itself in Redstone and Storage, so I say let it breathe!
