Meat is one of the best foods in the game, but it is infinitely accessible so early on, making food a non-issue. Instead of having domestic animals roaming around, if the player wants meat, they must hunt deer, bison, boars, goats, partridges, turkeys, quails, squirrels, rabbits, or other game animals (Deer drop venison, bison drop beef, boars drop pork, goats drop mutton, turkeys drop turkey, rabbits drop rabbit, everything else drops game, some drop feathers, leather, antlers, etc). They are too fast to catch on foot, so you must use a projectile weapon, a dog, or a trap. Wild animals destroy crops and berries, making protecting your crops with fences more important.
Baby bison, boars, goats, and partridges can be caught live and raised into domestic cows, pigs, sheep, or chickens respectively. Animals have to be fed (stuff like grass, wheat, etc, by hand or from a trough or the ground) in order for them to be able to grow, produce products, or breed (also allows for automation). Milk is only produced twice a day, eggs are only produced once a day. This would make hunting and farming more interesting, add an early-game challenge, and make early-game foods more useful.
