As the best selling game of all time, Minecraft should not be relying on random users on the internet to translate its content anymore. The current system lets anyone create an account and start voting on translation suggestions and/or adding translation suggestions themselves in mere mintues. The existence of a few select moderators is not a solution because they are also just volunteers chosen arbitrarily.
Such a system would also make the management of less literal, creative choices very difficult—so instead of utilizing the opportunity to work with translators and build a local brand image, Mojang/Microsoft forces the use of English names for a lot of mobs and items. (Even very simple names made of words, such as Piglins or Redstone are not allowed to be translated.)
This system might have made sense when it was first introduced as Minecraft was still a growing indie game, but at this point the community can no longer be trusted. The contributors are most often not qualified for the task, and for the ones that are, it's very frustrating to use.
I have personally seen objectively wrong mistranslations make it to stable Minecraft releases, and have watched correct translations get downvoted and mistranslations get upvoted on the platform.
Minecraft should stop having crowd-sourced public translations and invest in securing a few trusted professionals or agencies for each language.
