We already have very few flying mobs so adding owls could be an interesting new mechanic. Maybe you could feed them with mice- which could be found in caves as a new mob that would drop itself as an item and would give players hunger or poison if eaten- to tame them or maybe even add a drop for the bat since owls have been known to eat bats and many other prey animals and this would give players a reason to seek out bats.
Owls are extremely diverse in real life so maybe there could be a similar biome-specific texture for each owl like with wolves. For example in colder biomes there could be Snowy owls and in regular forests, taiga forests, or birch forests there could be screech or barn owls. In deserts there could be burrowing owls. Owls could be used similarly to how cats are used and could scare off spiders while possibly also being used for attacking mobs like wolves do(likely doing a lot less damage).
Another idea I’ve had concerning owls is that this could possibly give players a new block which would have a similar mechanic to bee hives and that would be a nest block where you can store your parrots and owls to keep them safe and make for easier transport with a silk touch Pickaxe. Maybe like with bee hives there could be visible texture changes to show if/how many of your pets is in there or not. This could also possibly be a passive way to make a feather farm and you could shear the nest block to get feathers or other new items.
