The new shelfs with the items actually sitting on the shelves are better.

Don't change the shelves back, it looks way better with the items sitting on the shelf. The items could be made bigger, and the top part of the shelf could use a little detail so it's not as bare.

    No, Minecraft shouldn't go for realism, it simply had way better aesthetics for builds and actually viewing them when they were larger and centered into their slot. 

    It's Minecraft, not real life.
