With the addition of the Infestation effect, silverfish have made it back into core Minecraft mechanics instead of being niche knowledge in strongholds and mountains. Silverfish still lack notable mechanics, however; they are but an inconvenience or an XP farm source. In real life, silverfish are known to damage clothing and books.
Adding a mechanic to have silverfish being attracted to bookshelves would add a useful controllable behavior to the mob, rather than having it as a purposeless entity. This could also bring chiseled bookshelves a new utility: silverfish target chiseled bookshelves in a 15-block radius and "eat" any books stored in them. They could have a general tendency in strongholds to move towards library rooms.
Aside from being a cool behavior and adding lore to the mob, making silverfish behavior controllable with bookshelves would aid the redstone and farming community by allowing the creation of waterless silverfish farms, using Infestation to spawn silverfish and bookshelves to lure them to a controlled area for XP farming or other utilizations. Currently, the typical method of controlling silverfish movement is player attraction or water channels, which can generate damage and/or water particle lag if handled poorly. Bookshelf attraction would allow a more controlled and refined mechanic for handling silverfish.
Apologies for the long justification, hope to see this mechanic!
