Preview 1.21.100.24 showed new visual effects: Stuttered camera movement when climbing ladders or vines, and a shader that hides sugar cane when close.
These have caused many more issues than they supposedly "solve". For starters, the sugar cane change ruins builds using sugar cane, and it hurts players who "like that feeling as they hit your face."
Then we've got the climbing change. I don't think I even need to explain; I just need to quote:
"The new ladder climbing is what’s causing me eye strain."
"I’m way more likely to get motion sick from the jerky ladder movement than with the current one." "As someone who does actually get eye strain from climbing ladders: this makes it worse."
"That 'improved' ladder animation makes my eyes hurt so bad."
"Why would anyone prefer strobing flashes of color over a constant movement?"
"The ladder rungs can cause seizures depending on the material background."
"I don't think I can even remember a game that does that because it's that bad of a decision."
It's true these changes could work if they're reworked enough. However, there has not been much, if any, good done by these changes; the only result has been harm. Instead of trying to fix such a tricky and minor issue (that players could get past by changing base design), why not focus on making lackluster things stand out?
Don't introduce this change.
