I suggest that wax (honeycombs) should not be applicable to copper golems. From both a logical and immersive standpoint, it doesn't make much sense. A copper golem is a mechanical construct, and like any mechanism, it needs regular movement and lubrication, not blockage.
In real life, wax is used to prevent oxidation and corrosion, but it also interferes with the movement of mechanical parts. Since copper golems are made of gears and moving components, applying wax should actually hinder their function.
Preventing waxing on copper golems would make their behavior more consistent with their mechanical nature. Alternatively, there could be a more logical way to maintain them — such as oiling, repairing with copper ingots, or some other mechanic that fits their design.
