Programming the Copper Golem

By interacting with the Copper Golem, players could customize its sorting behavior. Each option to program it would have a small illustration and hoverable text description.

Material Categorizing: Groups all items made from the same general material into the same storage. (Gold blocks, gold armor, and gold nuggets)

Function Categorizing: Sorts items based on their use or function. (Building blocks, tools, armor, functional blocks, etc)

Specific Categorizing: Combines both material and function, placing items with the same material and use together. (Netherite swords and other netherite tools.)

Singular Categorizing (Default) Stores only one specific item type per chest. (Only iron axes, excluding other iron tools.)

Optional Filters

Name Distinction Option: Items that are named differently than each other won't go in the same storage area

Enchantment Distinction Option: Items with different enchantments won't go in the same area

  This seems like it would break the vanilla feel. My take on this:

  You could right-click on a golem with specific items which slightly alter their appearance, and will change the functionality. Examples:

  - Use paper to make them group "items of the same material" (as OP put it), so group it by item tags

  - Use a book to make them group by creative inventory tab, like OPs function categorising

  - Add more sorting methods since I am not very creative

  - Remove any modifier with shears or maybe a copper ingot

  - Additionally, this will work best with an option to have a "default" chest, for all items that could not be sorted into the other chests 

  I don't know how good this will feel in game and whether it is a good addition, but I think this approach is at least a bit more vanilla-fitting than OP's.

  Hi! OP here! I like your ideas and I agree that they're more vanilla, but I feel like it would be more confusing and lost on newer and non-media focused players.

  To solve this copper golems with different specific items could be found in trial chambers so they're introduced to all players.

  They could also be non-functioning until they're given their item, or maybe only sort one way until given a new item.

  Also I think it would be better if the items were all redstone and metal based, like a repeater, compactor, hopper, anvil, dropper, etc

  Copper Golem Statues can be right-clicked to reveal 9 slots. Place the items you want them to sort in those slots, then revive them. This gives you the option for all of those in a way that players who don't read wiki's are likely to quickly find out. 

  Also, it gives you a new storage block - like a chest, it drops everything if you mine it.
