Copper tools should oxidize or include a distinguished feature

Copper tools should oxidize (as others have suggested) and have some difference from other tools.

When the item oxidizes, it could improve, eventually outperforming iron.

Copper could start out as worse than iron, causing players to make an investment and a choice between keeping copper or mining iron instead.

It could also decrease in efficiency, making it more of an early game, low tier item and simply an in-between or cheaper option than iron

 

I think copper should have some sort of tradeoff rather than simply being a lower tier. For example:

Less performance but speed bonus (electricity)

Better efficiency but lower durability, but still viable in early game

 

I think copper gear should be more susceptible to lightning, and when struck players could gain some sort of bonus. Maybe a specific tool could be added with this in mind. This could also be enhanced/altered by enchants. This would further give use to copper items. The By adding this it would make the new feature more interesting than simply being another tier.

    I believe that a system of copper tools starting out as quick and fast and get slower and slower as they oxidize is a great idea. It would help immensely in early game projects as iron is more precious and having a tool you can make for quickly digging out an area.

    maybe as the durability goes down, it does the four oxidizing stages 

    •  Unoxidized
    •  Exposed
    •  Weathered
    •  Oxidized
