I'm not usually one to go out of my way to post suggestion for games. I've never really cared enough to bother with it--HOWEVER, lately I've been running into the same annoying issue over and over, regarding the Dark and Pale Oak trees.
These trees can only grow if you have 4 saplings in a 2x2, and that's fine. My problem is that half of the time, these trees aren't dropping 4 saplings each!! It's completely unsustainable to be growing them when your base is thousands of blocks away from the nearest biome. Not only that, but if you just plant 1 sapling and bonemeal it, it doesn't create another sapling OR grow a smaller version of the tree. It just steals your bonemeal for nothing. Unless you have a skeleton spawner, this is a really pricey flaw.
My suggestion is that a feature should be added where if you shift and bonemeal a sapling, it drops another sapling rather than trying to speed up grow time. Another idea that was posted last year suggested making these 2x2 trees drop more saplings than others, balancing it out.
This may seem like a minimal issue, however it severely impacts the player experience when their entire build is supposed to be based off of the wood from these trees.
