pausing when your controller disconnects

I'm playing the game in single player, doing hardcore. I'm loving the ability to go into your menu and pause the game, but I've noticed that even though the hud disappears and a message pops up when my controller disconnects, warning me that it has done so and advising me to reconnect the controller, it appears that the game is still running. this can become fatal in hardcore runs, where you might have a disconnect in the middle of a swarm of zombies or something. 

perhaps pausing the game until reconnecting your controller or confirming a different input method would be a good idea

    I have no idea why this isn't a feature. I've lost worlds to this.
