Why add the Homely Villager?
Villages, medieval and modern, are filled with people who take care of the village itself and its inhabitants. These will help make Villages feel alive and fresh.
The Homely Villager
Homely Villagers don't sell anything but rather tend to the upkeep of the Village. If a Village-generated block is destroyed, they will replace it over time to match the original structure, such as by rebuilding and replacing doors, paths, walls, roofs, farm walls, and lightposts. They will not replace profession-related items, however, or destroy placed blocks. If a Door cannot be reached from the ground, they will place stairs until it can be. This functionality can be disabled with commands.
Villagers can only become Homely Villagers if there are at least 3 non-Nitwit adult Villagers in their proximity, and they are within the limits of a Village. A Homely Villager will become an Unemployed one upon leaving the Village limits, or if they were forcibly spawned outside a Village.
When not replacing blocks, they can be seen accompanying and tending to the Village children. If a child Villager is being attacked in their proximity, the Homely Villager will alert the offending mob to their location so that they will be attacked instead. Homely Villagers will also slowly place items, such as ingots and bread, in Village-generated chests, so that Villages will always have a renewing stock treasure to return to. The more common the item, the more likely it will be placed.
