I updated my game to 1.21.5 recently and managed to get my hands on the new Firefly Bushes, placing a ton around my base. The particles were neat, but the sound effects completely changed my view on the game. The chirping and buzzing at night when the fireflies came out made the game feel so much more ALIVE!
It made me realise that the game is desperately low on some subtle ambience. We have (lovely) music, but no ambience. The game is certainly on the right track, though, with the new shrubs and the added sounds to dead bushes in the deserts, but we need more!
The game needs more decorative blocks that emit noises, like the fireflies. It could also just do with some general sounds in each biome. The sound of leaves rustling in forests, the blowing of grass in the plains, biting winds in the tundra. And don't forget about the caves! I mean, come on, it's called a dripstone cave and there's no water dripping sound effects? No chirping of bugs in the lush caves? Not even soft, distant rumbles or rocks falling in normal caves? The Nether and End would also benefit, but the End needs an overhaul like the Nether had anyway. It would add so much, and would be a simple change. Surprised it hasn't been added already.
