Animals that don't trust you

If you hit an animal, all the animals of the same species near the place where you hit the animal will run away from you for the next 5 minutes, and if you kill the animal, they'll run away for 10 minutes, maybe food can help you regain their confidence.

Or maybe they attack you, but once you have killed one of the pack members, they flee.
