To improve Minecraft's survival elements, the glowing effect should be something to worry about by making it influence hostile mobs around you. When you are given glowing, mobs can see you at a larger radius and through the walls and ground. Creepers can even blow up walls when they are close to you to let mobs in. Yes, that's destructive, but the player's the one who started it, similar to how raids start. The player would get the effect if they killed a ghost mob that would be uncommon and only spawns in caves. These new mechanics would give Minecraft much-needed survival elements, and therefore survival building while still following Mojang's design principles.
