This is less a new idea, and more constructive criticism that I’ve been thinking about sharing for a while, especially after seeing the new ores and nuggets textures for the most recent Caves and Cliffs snapshot. (I’m not against differently shaped ores or retexturing, what I’m talking about is how round it looks and how fine the pixels are) Minecraft has a very specific charm to it that makes it unique and feel like “Minecraft”, and as time goes on, its quality and graphics have been improved. I’ve loved all the updates, but I feel like it’s steadily losing some of that Minecraft charm. I’ve been paying careful attention the past 2-3 updates, and I can confidently say things are beginning to have much more noticeably rounder feelings and shapes to them than before. The textures, while masterfully made, feel overly round at times, but it’s the blockiness that I fell in love with so long ago. The overall blockiness, even in items/textures, is very important to me and my overall Minecraft experience. It’s what makes Minecraft stand out, and though it’s happening slowly, it’s definitely losing that blockiness. The roundness of many things and fine pixels (the smaller pixels on certain items adds to the round feeling) make it feel less like what is, at its core, a blocky, square-based game. I’m asking that graphics and textures be reconsidered for their blocky quality and that Mojang consider ways to retexture things (especially items) while keeping them as blocky as possible
