Villagers should be able to at least punch basic hostile mobs, while a new job called Guard can wield weapons of all kind, often spawning with one, and are able to be equipped with armour, but at the cost of being unable to trade. Meanwhile, you should also be able to sell anything of your own choice to normal villagers as long as you have it in your inventory. There should also be a second menu, the Social Menu for all Villagers, where you can type messages for them, and the Villager’s AI would generate a response based on the message. Back to the selling/trading of your choice, you would also be able to a Villager stuff for free (Including Guards), which would be called a gift, and be able to recruit them to adventure with you. With the Recruiting feature, you would be able to use the Social Menu to give them commands such as “Stay Here”, “Follow Me”, and so on. If you have more than one Villager, you’d be able to use the Group Commands menu to make all of them listen at once. This menu would add another three commands for combat, “Defend here”, which makes them defend that one spot and faster to attack hostile mobs, “Defend Me”, which makes them form a defensive circle around you. Then there would be “Attack”, where a special version of the cursor appears, and if you place a block with that cursor, the special cursor disappears and nothing happens. If you break a block with it, your recruits charge. With the Group Commands, your also able to pick certain recruits for it.
