The overworld ores in minecraft have their own special uses. Lapis allows you to enchant, Emeralds allow you to trade, Gold allows you to trade and stay safe in the nether, and Redstone can make and power contraptions.
However, copper in the new caves and cliffs update does not have a use as of yet. An idea to give copper a use is to allow vertical circuits to be made by copper blocks. In the real world, copper is a conductor of electricity, so allowing copper to conduct redstone would be logical in how it works.
The strength of redstone in copper blocks is not modified, however placing redstone torches on the copper blocks will strengthen the signal (basically like Normal redstone.)
However, some players may not want the option when using copper in regular builds. To fix this, waxed copper blocks will not allow redstone signals.
Overall, I believe that this is a great feature for redstone users as it allows for a less tedious and much cleaner method of upwards redstone circuits.
