Can the amount of RAM needed for minecraft be lowered?

8 GB is a serious amount, and I know game with better graphics that only require 4 GB! I ask you please to consider lowering the amount of ram needed to play minecraft.

Well yeah they could but it would be really laggy, it is kind of like asking the school if you can use a smaller backpack for your books. It just wont fit.
