Redstone functionality with crafting blocks

Be interesting if you could add some sort of functionality to redstone for blocks like say, stone cutter.

I noticed that for stone block for example, there are only 7 recipes in the stone cutter, with redstone having varying signal up to 15, so you could have a hopper feeding stone to the stone cutter with a comparator input of 3 for example to have it craft Stone Bricks and drop out the bottom to a hopper.

Probably poorly explained, but hopefully gets the point across, can already see the potential bottlenecks on having as block with more than 15 crafts available for example. Just an idea from an avid redstoner.
