Piston Capabilities

The most annoying thing about making automatic movement machines is the capability of the pistons. The builder is forced to either compact their design or to have multiple machines do one job. I am not asking for super strong pistons that can push anything and up to an infinite amount of blocks, but I am asking to make them able to push more blocks, say 20 or 24. This would help so much in creating projects and would further enhance the mechanised aspect to the game.
