Needs a better screen reader

My friend is mostly blind and he can't see what's in his hand/his inventory/crafting interface/whatever and the voice reader is not only practically indecipherable, it also isn't very good at reading things accurately. It doesn't tell you what item you are holding or what you've clicked on. It's just lists off how many possible options there are to click on and which one you're on. It doesn't tell you the item let alone how much of this item you have. This makes the game practically unplayable for him and he's really bummed out about it. I understand that it's hard to get a good and well functioning screen reader but I think this is something to invest into.
