Copper wires

So I was thinking about copper and copper wire fits in perfectly. It could be used like redstone dust to carry a redstone current but twice as far. The wires would be able to fit in-between blocks for hidden redstone traps or doors and it could be placed on any side of most blocks (counting out the slabs and stair blocks) for easy movement such as going straight down or straight up without requiring steps of some sort like for redstone dust. Other then that it would work similar to redstone dust but a few thing added in and water destroys it half the time. And it could be used with to craft some sort of electric device that holds the energy from the lightning hitting the lightning rod and that stored energy could be used as a electric wepon. Just throwing the second idea out there.
