Automating crafting is something that the community has wanted for a while as it is the most tedious part of Minecraft. This idea is how to use villagers as a source for your crafted materials that could also fit into the existing villager trading system. Full AFK automation is not the best place for minecraft to go, so I believe that villagers could pick up materials for items that they trade, which would refresh their trade.
There are a other few ideas about how villagers could be used for automating crafting, but using a villager as a machine where they pick up and spit out items does not fit in Minecraft. Villagers should "craft" if a they see a crafting table next to their current workstation, they can pick up items and craft them to refresh that trade. For example if a Armorer is out of iron boots, they can pick up 4 iron on the ground and gain 1 more to sell. This does not change the current villager trading only enhances it.
There are some recipes, namely dispensers that are a pain to craft. I think that there should be a new villager added that could be named along the lines of "Merchant" That you can teach trades to by selling/throwing an item to them. The amount you are able to teach them scales with their level novice=2, apprentice=4, etc. These villagers must now pick up the materials or items and then will be able to sell them for emeralds. If a merchant knows how to craft a bow and dispenser, then they can craft the bow and use it for the dispenser.
