Currently there isn't really any skill or strategy in attacking, and combos aren't really combos since they can't be controlled. Let's fix this:
- Still Attacks: If you stand still while attacking, your attack will keep you in place until the attack is over, being at normal speed and dealing normal pushback.
- Moving Attack: If you move while attacking, your attack will make you step forward, with slower attacks causing larger steps. This attack will be slower, but will cause more pushback.
- Combo Attack: Combos will be reworked so you need to do still attacks and moving attacks in a specific order depending on the type of weapon, and the final attack in a combo will be a combo attack. For example, to use the axe combo attack, you need to do a moving attack, a moving attack, then a still attack. The final attack in the combo will only become a combo attack if the pattern is done correctly.
This would make combat more interactive by encouraging players to alternate between standing still while attacking and moving while attacking for engaging combos, instead of just being a repetitive button mash. It would also fix the difficulty issue by making higher difficulties require more interaction, instead of feeling like inevitable doom. As a bonus, melee weapons will have more variety, as each melee weapon will require different attack patterns to perform unique combo attacks.
