I didn't see a suggestion for this, so I'm making it. Why not have the different weathered states of copper blocks have different redstone comparator signal strengths? For example, copper blocks would emit a signal strength of 3, lightly weathered copper would emit 7, semi-weathered copper would emit 11, and weathered copper would emit 15. This would make it possible to create AFKable copper weathering clocks, and limits the possibility of forgetting to make sure the copper has weathered to a certain degree.
