If you are to equip certain items on an armor stand with special names, it will change the appearance of the stand or change part of it. Like if you give it a creeper head and name it kaboom, it will begin to start the creeper explosion cycle and blow up. Also as a more functional feature of a armor stand is holding a breeding item (like wheat) animals will approach as if it was a player.
