Alright, here I go again.
The texture change from 3 years ago, most textures look fine, but the most essential blocks all still look bad and plasticity? Like wood planks/logs and stone/cobble, they look decent from an art standpoint, but they look terrible in game.
The main problem is that for some reason they felt the need to fundamentally change the looks of these blocks completely? Like I get wanting to upgrade the look, but they did it very poorly.
Planks: the colors of oak, birch, spruce and acacia are all much less appealing, and they all have this weird shine to them that makes them look like plastic.
Stone and logs: this is a bit unusual, it seems they just made the lines darker on both, it makes them stick out in a very weird and unpleasant way.
Cobblestone: by far the worst offender, it has the same plastic problem as planks, but coupled with a general messiness that just feels... gross.
The old texture looked like actual cobblestone, this just looks like weird scales.
I’m not saying they need to totally revert, but they definitely need to tone down the details on these and various other things in the game. The point of changing the textures is to have a more consistent art style, but that ultimately fails when half the blocks stick out like a sore thumb.
One final note: these textures might look half decent as single blocks, but they don’t work in large quantities the way the old textures did.
